Summary

3.7

The SHOWWX mini projector is one of the most aesthetically pleasing options in the market today. Its sleek design and easy to use capabilities makes this a good choice for most people who want a pocket projector for iPhone 5 or 6 with all the basic features.

Features

microvision showwxThe SHOWWX mini projector has a number of ports, including a USB port through which you can connect it to other devices or plug in the charger. It has a port that can also be used as composite video adapter, which means it is very simple to connect a device such as a camera right onto the projector. It does not have a built in speaker, but it is simple enough to hook one up to function with it.

This projector is one of the only ones we saw that uses a laser projection, so it does not need a lamp. Other features include:

  • Rich and Vivid laser colors
  • High resolution (WVGA 848×480), Widescreen (16:9) aspect ratio.
  • Plug-n-play operation with your device is easy.
  • Great battery life (up to 2 hours on a single charge)
  • Product dimensions 2 x 9 x 7 inches, online 1 pound of weight

Technology

The SHOWWX mini projector has excellent contrast ration, coming in at 5000:1, making it the highest ratio we have seen in most of the reviewed mini projectors. The picture brightness, however, could be better, coming in at only 10 ANSI lumens. This makes it very difficult to use the projector unless you are in a completely darkened room. It has a 848 x 480 resolution, which is about average, and a picture size ranging from 6 to 100 inches. The SHOWWX’s most unique feature is the laser it utilizes to project the image, unlike most other projectors which depend on a lamp.

Positives

It is a highly portable mini projector that can be easily plugged in and used. There are no messes of cables to worry about and its laser means you will not have to spend extra buying a lamp. It has a very positive contrast ratio to make clear and sharp images, and its resolution means that the images will always be in focus. Its battery lasts up to 2 hours, making it ideal for presentations or the like and it is one of the lightest models available today. The projector comes with an iPhone cable through which you can connect it to your phone or iPad and it is very easy to charge its battery.

Negatives

The SHOWWX mini projector’s brightness leaves quite a bit to be desired, with only 10 ANSI lumens. This makes the images just okay, when they could be much better taking its contrast ratio into account. This projector is also missing a manual focus, which will leave you helpless if the images you are looking to project do not come into focus on their own. This projector does not have an internal speaker system, so you will have to rely on an external one for any presentations. The cables required for this projector are Microvision-specific, making it vital that you always have your cable with you and limiting your options if you forget it.

Customer Feedback and Reviews

People using this mini projector enjoy how easy it is to use, with only four buttons to worry about and nothing to really adjust to get a clear image. They enjoy its small size which makes it ideal for presentations and more relaxed settings, but they would have preferred an internal speaker and a flash memory. They explain it is not the best projector when it comes to reading text, but they do agree that it can capture great color quality in videos and images and that its easy to charge battery provides two full hours of life.
